THE ELEMENTS OF ART:

• Line - a mark with length and direction, created by a point that moves across a surface
• shape/form - flat figures created when actual or lines meet to surround a place
• color - sometimes called hue
• texture - the way something feels
• value - the lightness or darkness of a color
• space - the empty or open area between, around, above, below or within objects.

THE PRINCIPLES OF ART:

• balance - a principle of design that describes the arrangement of parts of an artwork
• rhythm and movement - a way of combining visual elements to create a sense of action
• proportion - the relation of one object to another in size, amount, number or degree
• emphasis or contrast - a difference between light and dark, thick and thin, cool and warm, large and small, etc.
• Pattern - a choice of lines, colors, or shapes repeated over and over in a planned way.
• unity - a feeling that all parts of a design are working together as a team
• variety - a change in form, shape, detail, or appearance, that makes an object different from others.
