Man can not add to the atmospheric concentration of water vapour, the most abundant greenhouse gas, because any additional water vapour simply precipitates, returning the water vapour level to its earlier equilibrium. Thus the current atmospheric level of water vapour is not man-made. Carbon dioxide, the next most abundant greenhouse gas also occurs naturally. Before human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, began adding to the atmospheric concentration of this gas, its long-term level was in the range 260 to 280 parts per million (ppm) in the atmosphere. The increase to the present level of 400 parts per million is actually an increase of more than 35 per cent, and most climate scientists say that this is substantially due to human activities, in other words man-made.

Some carbon dioxide is man made, created when we process foods into energy, and expunged when we respire. Other carbon dioxide comes from man-made processes including fire, and combustion. Most carbon dioxide is naturally occurring.

No. While it is possible to synthesize it, it is normally extracted from underground. Methane is the primary component of natural gas.

No. The same amount of CO2 that existed a thousand years ago still exists today in various forms and storage conditions. Matter can be neither created nor destroyed it is only released from its current condition solid or gaseous form. Also...CO2 is a natural atmospheric Gas contrary to beliefs that it’s man made. It isn’t. It’s naturally occurring and very important for all life on earth. It’s in the water it’s in the air , The rocks ,Plants etc....

What is the largest source of greenhouse gases produced by people?

The biggest contributor of Carbon Dioxide is natural and not man made. With carbon dioxide, it is important to distinguish between natural and man-made sources. One of the largest sources of atmospheric carbon dioxide is through plant and animal decay as microorganisms break down the dead material, releasing carbon dioxide into the air as part of the process. Other naturally occurring sources include forest fires and volcanoes. Burning fossil fuels is a primary source of greenhouse gases caused by man; as the chemical energy in a hydrocarbon-rich fossil fuel is converted into heat, carbon dioxide is produced as a byproduct. Forest clearing - or deforestation - and the burning of solid waste, wood, and wood products are also sources of atmospheric carbon dioxide.

What is the artificial greenhouse effect?

If you mean the man-made one, it is the accelerated, or enhanced greenhouse effect, caused by man's burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) in industry, transport and the generation of electricity, which releases carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas which is causing global warming and climate change.

What are two ways Carbon Dioxide gets into the air?

Carbon dioxide can be added to the air by nature or by people and their activities. Two Natural ways:Decomposition of dead plants and animalsAnimal/plant respirationTwo Man-made contributions:Burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas)Industrial processes (factories)

What are anthropogenic greenhouse gases?

Anthropogenic means made by humans, so the greenhouse gases caused by man are mostly carbon dioxide and some methane, and some CFCs.

Why has carbon dioxide concentration risen?

because they is more and more cars, buses, train in the world and loads off gasses Such as fumes

Related questions

Does carbon dioxide emit CFC?

No. CFC's are a man made gas.

Can carbon dioxide be man made?

yes. by the combustion of carbon containing hydrocarbons or fuels or wood etc

Is there any way scientists can determine what percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is from the burning of fossil fuels compared to other sources of carbon dioxide such as respiration or for?

Yes, scientists can tell the difference. Carbon dioxide (CO2) released from the burning of long-buried fossil fuels contains carbon of different isotopic ratios to those of living plants. So we can distinguish between natural and man-made CO2.

What causes carbon dioxide to level in the atmosphere?

Levels of carbon dioxide are maintained when the amount of carbon dioxide being absorbed by the oceans and plant life equals the amount of carbon dioxide created by all natural and man made sources. When these sources exceed the ability to absorb, the levels go up. The major threat to this equilibrium is, of course, the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas), which releases carbon dioxide hidden away for millions of years.

What evidence is there to suggest that carbon dioxide produced from burning fossil fuels may be linked to Global Warming?

A:People, that is already a long list that [sadly] is getting longer every day.A:Lots of research shows that man-made (anthropogenic) carbon dioxide (CO2) is directly responsible for Global Warming:rise in carbon dioxide levels since the start of the Industrial Revolution (when humans first started to burn fossil fuels on a large scale). Today's levels are much higher than they ever have been in the past 650,000 years;there is an unequivocal relation between man-made carbon dioxide emissions and the measurements of atmospheric carbon dioxide;the proven fact that increased atmospheric carbon dioxide increases global temperature. Observations clearly show the earth is warming;isotope analyses of atmospheric carbon dioxide allows to trace its man-made origins.exhaustive research rule out other greenhouse gasses and/or natural carbon dioxide sources which might cause the current temperature increases/atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.See links below for addtional information/graphs.I think its because carbon dioxide stores heat and the atmosphere holds the co2 on earth.

What causes the gases in acid rain to be produced and released into the atmosphere?

Some gases present in acid rain* Sulphur dioxide, SO2 * Nitrogen oxide, NO * Nitrogen dioxide, NO2 * Carbon dioxide, CO2 (in excess amounts)The abovementioned gases are acidic in the sense that when they dissolve in water, they will react to form acids. For example, sulphur dioxide when released into the atmosphere will eventually be oxidised such that it forms sulphuric acid, H2SO4.The gases originate from both man-made and natural sources. Man-made sources * Vehicles. The combustion of fuel produces carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and oxides of nitrogen (NO / NO2). * Coal factories. Coal contains carbon, which when combusted gives rise to carbon dioxide. There are also impurities like sulphur, which are oxidised to form sulphur dioxide during the burning process.Natural sources* Volcano eruptions. Large volumes of gases such as sulphur dioxide are expelled into the air when this takes place.Note: These are but a few (very few, actually) examples.
