When lumbering, you gotta do a risk assessment before you start cutting down pieces of wood.

Lumbering has a famous reputation for high accident and risk rates. There is numerous of risks such as, being crushed by falling stacks of wood, cutting yourself on the saw blades, getting sawdust and/or getting pieces of wood jabbed into your eyes, receiving splinters and becoming deaf due to the high noise levels.

Here are the safety percussion's for each risk

  • Becoming deaf - All people who are operating or near working saw blade machines must wear ear defenders to reduce the noise from the machines at work.
  • Being jabbed in the eye with sawdust and/or small pieces of wood- All sawmill operators must wear safety sealed eye protectors and their must be a good ventilation system to get rid of any sawdust in the air space of work.
  • Injures sustained from Blades - Take extreme cautions when near operating blades.
  • Splinters - Wear heavy duty protective gloves.
  • Being crushed by stacks of timber - When stacking the timber, make sure their piled side by side and not in a pyramid shape and if possible, try enclosing the collected timber to prevent it from moving.
