The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or better known as NOAA currently operates the National Weather Service.The history of this government organization began in 1890 as the Weather Bureau under the Department of Agriculture.In 1940 Roosevelt moves the Weather Bureau under the control of the Department of Commerce.In 1970 the former Environmental Science Services Administration or ESSA evolves into NOAA, and around the same time the National Weather Service (NWS) is created from the U.S. Weather Bureau.
