Antoine Henri Becquerel discovered in 1896 the natural radioactivity of uranium. The emitted radiations have effect on a photographic plate, the emulsion was decomposed under the uranium sample.
He knew that fluorescent substances glow in the dark. In 1896 he devised an experiment to find out if fluorescent substances would give of x-rays. He wrapped photographic film in light-proof paper . Then he placed uranium salt on top of the paper. He left these materials in direct sunlight to cause the uranium to become fluorescent.
When he developed the film, he saw an image.
(second time around) He prepared the uranium salt, light-proof paper, and film. Then the weather turned cloudy for two days, and he put the materials in a drawer. After many days, he went ahead and developed the second film. He found the image as clear and strong as the image produced in sunlight.
So sunlight had nothing to do with the image on the film. It was radioactivity .
Hope this helps:)
Becquerel wrapped a fluorescent substance, potassium uranyl sulfate, in photographic plates and Becquerel wrapped a fluorescent substance, potassium uranyl sulfate, in photographic plates and black material in preparation for an experiment requiring bright sunlight material in preparation for an experiment requiring bright sunlight.
It was an accident, not a deliberate experiment.
He had left unexposed wrapped up photographic plates in a drawer. Sometime later he put some samples of uranium ore in the same drawer on top of the wrapped plates. Later, when he removed the plates he developed a few unexposed to verify they were still good after all that time in storage. But he found them inexplicability fogged, exactly where the uranium ore had sat, the same on every plate. Instead of simply trashing the plates, he realized he must be observing a previously unknown phenomenon.
At this point he began the deliberate and careful experiments to identify and characterize the unknown source of energy that fogged photographic plates through their opaque wrappers.
Henri Becquerel was a partner of the Curies during their research. On his own, he discovered that uranium salts emitted a penetrating radiation that was different than x-rays.
his hypothesis was that uranium salt gives off x-rays would pass through the paper and produce an image on the film.
He discovered solar energy
Radioactivity
something to do with radiation :)
Uranium is toxic and radioactive; without precautions uranium can be an important pollutant near the mines or uranium plants.
Uranium 235 is 0.7 percent of natural uranium and is fissile
The atomic number of uranium is 92. The number of neutrons of the isotope uranium-235 is 143.
No uranium is not chemically active
Plutonium and enriched uranium are different materials.Enriched uranium is uranium with a concentration of the isotope 235U greater than the natural concentration of 0,7 %.

Henri Becquerel discovered the radioactivity of uranium in 1896. Polonium and radium were discovered in 1898 by Marie and Pierre Curie.
Henri Becquerel was the first to discover that a penetrating radiation came from uranium, even if the uranium had not been exposed to sunlight. He thus showed that radioactivity was a fundamental property of uranium. Prior to his discovery, it was thought that any such radiation coming from uranium was the result of its interaction with sunlight.
Antoine Henri Becquerel contributed to the discovery of radioactivity. He was a physicist, working with Marie and Pierre Curie when they discovered uranium.
Henri Becquerel discovered in 1896 the natural radioactivity.
The work of Henri Becquerel discovered uranium rays. Marie Curie used them in her work and helped to discover evidence that atoms may not have been the simplest blocks of matter and could in fact be divided.
Becquerel in 1896 discovered that uranium emit radiations.
Henri Becquerel discovered radioactivity, together with the famous Marie Curie. The word "Becquerel" is now used as an S.I. unit of radioactivity. 1 Becquerel (Bq) means that 1 nucleus decays each second.
Radioactivity was discovered in 1896 by Henri Becquerel, a French scientist, while testing phosphorescent materials with photographic plates. He discovered that, when the plates were covered with black paper, that phosphorescent materials did not affect the plates until he used uranium salts.
Uranium's radioactive properties were discovered in 1896 by Antoine Becquerel.
Henri Becquerel discovered that Uranium is a radioactive element. He did experiments and investigation of Uranium and other substances. He also studied a type of photoluminescence that is related to fluorescence.
