Aside from precise location, they measure variables such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and atmospheric pressure, and get an atmospheric profile of the eye and eyewall from packages of instruments called dropsondes.They are meteorologists in the Air Force Reserve who fly into hurricanes to collect atmospheric data to better predict these storms.
Hurricanes are observed and tracked by satellite, by specialized planes called hurricane hunters, and b surface observations by buoys at sea and radar on land.
Hurricane hunters aim to find out the scale of the hurricane so that they can give people warnings if they need to vacate. Some data collected include the speed of the hurricane and pressure readings.
