Well, it was proven that inland bull shark sightings increased after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
My two guesses as to why:
1) The bull sharks' sensory systems detected the storm's turbulence before the brunt of the hurricane hit and relocated further upriver or out to deeper waters.
2) Post-hurricane, the salinity of the water inland has changed significantly enough to allow bull sharks to stay in lakes and rivers longer than usual.
