air rises at it is pushed up a mountain slope by wind. As it rises it cools. When it reaches its dew point, condensation will occur and clouds will form causing precipitation. When the air passes over the ridge, it will begin to drop and warm and relative humidity will drop. The condensation on the windward side of the mountain will therefore be exposed to more rainfall and thus have more dense vegitation.
