Two improvements on this recently:
Enhanced CZ, like with the Asha diamond simulant that takes a high end CZ and adds an optical layer and then amorpous diamond (carbon) outer shell.
Moissanite - no zirconium, but instead is a hexagonal form of silicon carbide. Its non-cubic crystal structure gives it some optical properties that are quite different from diamond, so it is not a perfect imitation.
