Sea level rise is a major threat to the people living in coastal areas. The sea level is rising mainly because of the melting of the polar ice. Both the North pole as well as the South Pole have a thick cover of ice but due to the change in the climatic conditions this polar ice is melting slowly and slowly and as a result releasing more water in our vast oceans. This increase of water in oceans thus results in the increase of sea level.

With this rise of sea level the coastal areas of most of the countries will be submerged under water and the human inhabitants of these places have to leave and look for other places. This rise in sea level is becoming the major threat of this century mainly due to rise in temperature every year.

  • There is a news that the Maldive islands will be submerged under the sea in near future due to this alarming increase of the sea level.
  • Land is decreasing and the time is not far away when the whole will be under water
  • The major cities will be covered with the sea
  • Lots of towns would be underwater.
  • Bangladesh would disappear.
  • Towns that were once a short distance from the sea would become coastal towns.
  • Many low lying countries will be under water, including large parts of the USA, UK, Holland, Bangla Desh, and many Pacific Island countries.

Ok, according to my humble knowledge and from geology point of view I can say it will die especially if the sea level rose suddenly and quickly. The coral reefs need to the sun light to be alive, from this scientific fact, when the sea level becomes high above the coral reef in many feets there is no light will be available to these creatures which causes later the death. However, if the sea level rose gradually the reefs could catch up to be in the zone of the sun light to still be alive. Elharati Adel Jenior geologist

Global warming is is beginning to result in coral bleaching. Sea levels have not yet risen enough to cause serious damage to coral reefs, but as sea levels rise further, some corals will become submerged too deep to get the sunlight needed for the species and will begin to die.
