A compass has a magnetized needle that can spin freely.
The electron spin is actually a tiny magnet When a material is magnetized, the spins line up
D. Electron Spin
It doesn't work like that. You can't make an electron have spin, remove its spin, or change the amount of its spin. What happens in a permanent magnet is that more electrons have their spin axis in one direction than in the opposite direction. Since the spin is associated with a magnetic field, that results in magnetism that can be observed externally.
A hurricane's spin is a result of a the Coriolis effect. a consequence of the earth's spin. The low pressure in a hurricane draws air toward the center of a hurricane, however, as a result of earth's spin wind currents in the northern hemisphere get deflected to the right, this actually reduces the change in velocity further away from the center of lowest pressure. As a consequence, this gives the storm a counterclockwise spin. The effect is reversed in the southern hemisphere.

In order for an electric motor to spin freely you will have to make sure you have one thing. You have to have the electric current for the motor to run freely.
because oil reduces friction
Use a needle punk.
yes
...... rub a needle/other piece of metal against a magnet? I know that if you do that with a needle, then put the needle on top of some water, it will spin to point north.
Bearings are used to let the wheels spin freely and with minimal drag.
Any magnetized object that can be floated on water or oil with very little friction will work. The ones that work best are things like magnetized straight-pins and sewing needles. I have a home-made compass in my office. I cut the straight part out of the bottom of a metal coat-hanger, magnetized it, and hung it balanced from a piece of thread taped to the ceiling. For relaxation that only an Engineer could appreciate, I like to give it a gentle spin on the end of the thread, then sit back, and watch it oscillate back and forth and finally come to rest pointing north again. In this way, I can kill an hour whenever I want to.
It doesn't have to; you might invent a record player where the record remains in place, and the needle moves. The inventors probably thought it was easier to spin the record. It doesn't have to; you might invent a record player where the record remains in place, and the needle moves.
