A cavern is a large underground cave, and a sinkhole is part of the ground that has collapsed into a hole due to weight on top of it or because of the ground underneath it dissolving. A sinkhole might occur due to land being over a cavern when the cavern roof dissolves too small and the weight on top overcomes the strength of the land.
They are not somuch large because they are full of ice, but happen to be large caves thataccumulate a lot ofice; and the size ofany individual cave depends on awhole (hole? -sorry!) range of geological, hydrological and climatic factors specidif to that cave and its location.

Not really a "force", more a process. Chemical weathering primarily. Some mechanical weathering and erosion in active stream passages once these have been enlarged enough to carry large volumes of water. Rainwater acidified by absorbed atmospheric carbon dioxide sinks through the joints and other discontinuities in the limestone upland's mass, dissolving the calcium carbonate that is the rock's main constituent. BTW you don't need the adjective. Caves are always underground!
Most caves are small but some are very large and complex. There is no standard size and finding an "average" is not very useful.
The only caves that can form dry are; Rock-shelters eroded out by wind-blown sand. Talus Caves: voids between landslipped boulders and their parentrock-face. Mass-movement fissures: formed by a type of landslip. Lava Tubes - rather stretching the point because they result from molten lava flowing out from beneath a solidified crust. Caves formed in limestone - as most caves are - arekarst features, i.e. result from dissolution of the rock by weakly-acidic ground-water. Although such caves can subsequently lose their formative streams and so become dry, they were not formed dry and do not develop any further.

Most caves - of any size - are in limestone, and those are all formed primarily by dissoultion of the rock by weakly acidic ground-water penetrating the joints, bedding-planes, faults and other permeabl discontinuities within the rock mass.
Nope. No mountains in sight. Not even Kilimanjaro. It's flats grounds all the way... Obviously there is. Kango Caves for one(in the Cape Province (which is in South Africa (which is in Africa (South)))) There are also extensive caves below the Nullarbor Plain in Australia, and that's "flat ground all the way"!
because the area of their feet, that touches the ground, is large and so the pressure the elephant makes onto the surface of the ground is small. They will sink if the ground is not hard enough, but on average they have no problems with sinking into the ground
