An example was when the Indian Plate collided with the European Plate. The softer Indian Plate was forced underneath, which raised the European Plate to form the Himalayas.
Convergent boundaries are where plates move into one another. When the Indian Plate collided with the harder Eurasian Plate the Indian Plate went underneath and raised up the Eurasian Plate to form the Himalayas.

A plateau is a raised area of flat land, used for irrigation and farming. On the other hand, a mountain is formed from the movement of plates underneath the earths surface, which, when they meet, push against each other and get pushed upwards, creating a mountain.
