Well, some plants will actually attach themselves to a tree so that they are out of the way of weeds that might overpower them. The plant benefits because it's out of the way of weeds and other plants and it is able to reach more sunlight. The tree isn't harmed or benefiting from the relationship, it's basically just there to live, and in doing so it involuntarily helps the plant species.
