Main Karakoram Thrust(MKT) was formed in cretaceous due to collision of Kohistan-Ladakh with southern margin of Micro Karakoram Plate (Tahir kheli et al., 1982)

MKT is a thrust fault that seperates the cretaceous-tertiary rocks of Kohistan-Ladakh arc from the late Paleozoic metasediments of Karakoram plate. In kohistan it is known as MKT, while in ladakh area it is known as Shyok suture zone.

What is the main factor in determining the amount of thrust a rocket requires to leave the earths atmosphere?

The main factor in determining the amount of thrust a rocket requires to leave the Earth's atmosphere is the mass of the rocket. The heavier the rocket, the more thrust is needed to overcome Earth's gravity and propel it into space.

What is main mantle thrust?

Main Mantle Thrust fault (MMT) is a regional fault in the Northern Pakistan, lower swat of Pakistan. It is formed due to the collusion of INDIAN PLATE with the EURASIAN plate, which had happened in cretaceous age. It is the last boundary of INDIAN PLATE, beyond this to the NORTH is Kohistan Island Arc(KIA). KIA is the area between INDIAN PLATE and EURASIAN PLATE. Beyond the KIA towards the NORTH is Main Karakorum Thrust fault(MKT). Both are the thrust faults and the characteristics of thrust faults is that it brings the older rocks over the younger rocks. MKT is the start of EURASIAN PLATE, means after it EURASIAN PLATE starts. . regards AHMAD GHANI, geo_agk@yahoo.com Department of Geology, University of Peshawar.

What are the key differences between the Karakoram and Himalaya mountain ranges in terms of their geological formations and impact on the surrounding regions?

The Karakoram and Himalaya mountain ranges are both located in South Asia, but they have distinct geological formations and impacts on the surrounding regions. The Karakoram range is younger and more rugged, with sharp peaks and glaciers, while the Himalayas are older and have a more gradual slope. The Karakoram range has a greater impact on the surrounding regions in terms of water resources and climate, while the Himalayas play a crucial role in shaping the monsoon patterns and biodiversity of the region.
