Mostly clay in the northern parts of Houston. Katy and the southwest freeway area used to be rice fields, so their soil may be more sandy. Since azaleas, impatiens and pine trees grew well there, I thought the soil tended toward more acidic. Germans moved to the Spring/Tomball areas to farm since the soil was conducive to growing vegetables and so on.
