∙ 13y agoThe price of a barrel of oil increases as it passes through the refining process. According to the US Department of Energy for each dollar you spend at the pump:
- Taxes: 15 cents
- Distribution and Marketing: 11 cents
- Refining: 7 cents
- Crude oil: 67 cents
These costs change with the cost of crude oil and its type (some are harder to refine)
