The only difference is the name of the unit; the numerical values are the same. However, the value in amu is the mass of a single molecule, while the molecular weight in grams is the mass of Avogadro's number of molecules.

The mass of Avogadro's number of molecules is called a Gram-mole. The molecular weight of , say, Hydrogen H2 is 2 amu. A gram mole of this would be 2 grams. The molecular weight in grams is the weight of this molecule in real grams and is an extremely small value.

How many grams are in 3.80mol of sodium chloride?

weight = moles x molecular weight = 3.80 x 58.44 = 222.07 g

How many moles of carbon are there from the original sample of 11.0 grams of carbon dioxide and 4.50 grams of water with a combustion of 7.50 grams?

Look up the molecular weight of carbon dioxide in the periodic table. The formula for carbon dioxide is CO2, which means one atom of carbon and two atoms or oxygen per molecule of carbon dioxide. Carbon has molecular weight of 12. Oxygen molecular weight is 16. Total 12+16+16= 44 11 grams/44 grams/mole=0.25 moles of carbon The grams of water and combustion of 7.5 grams are totally irrelevant. They are only given to possibly confuse you.

What is the mass of 6.02x23 atoms of sulfur?

Avogadro's number is the number of units in one mole of any substance (defined as its molecular/atomic weight in grams), equal to 6.022140857 × 10 23. Using this we know that because the molecular weight of sulfur is 32.06, a mole of sulfur will weigh 32.06 grams.

Specific gravity of oxygen is?

Start with the molecular weight of oxygen, twice the atomic weight because it's O2. So the molecular weight is 32. Now at school you learn that a gram-mole of any gas occupies 22.4 litres. A gram-mole of oxygen weighs 32 grams (1 gram times the molecular weight). Therefore 32 grams of oxygen occupies 22.4 litres (at normal temperature and pressure). 22.4 litres of water (specific gravity = 1) weighs 22400 grams. Therefore the specific gravity is 32/22400 = 0.00142857 . . That's it!

What is the difference between formula mass and the molecular mass of a compound?

1 mol is equal to 6.02214179(30)×1023 molecules of the substance. The molecular weight is how much grams these molecules (6.02214179(30)×1023) weigh. Meaning g/mol.

What is the mass of 64.44 grams?

The mass is 64.44 grams. But the difference between mass and weight is that mass is weight is how heavy it is on the planet you weigh it on and mass it the weight it is on Earth, whether is is on Earth, or not.

How many moles are in 56 grams of carbon monoxide?

moles = weight in grams / molecular weight = 56 / 28 = 2 moles

How do calculate how many mole are in grams?

For these conversions, you need the atomic masses of the elements involved in grams. If it is just one element, then you use the atomic mass, but if its a compound, then use the molecular mass (added atomic masses). Take the number of moles and multiply it by the atomic (molecular) mass to get number of grams.

How do you fnd the molarity?

Find the molarity?

How many grams in 2 moles of HCI?

A Mole is the molecular weight expressed in grams. So for example water H2O: the molecular weight of oxygen is 16 and hydrogen is 1 so the total molecular weight of water is 18 (16 for one atom of oxygen plus 2x1 for the two atoms of hydrogen). For HCl, the atomic weight of Cl is 35 and H is 1 so the total molecular weight is 36. So 1 Mole of HCl is 36 grams. If you have 2 moles, it would be 72 grams.
