The interesting question of course, is why no-one thinks about those resources' uses beyond simply fuel for heating, transport & electricity generation. I suspect some of the problem arises from ignorance of the difference between fuel and energy, but we have to remember that fossil fuels' source minerals are the raw materials for a vast array of materials we take for granted - including much of the computer on which you are reading this. Whatever we do, many of the claims for "green" employment, "sustainable living" etc are frighteningly hollow because people don't stop to analyse them.
