The word arsenic roots back to a Persian word Zarnikh meaning "yellow orpiment" which then evolved into the Green arsinikon, meaning potent. Arsenic is known for it's high potency and toxicity.

The word arsenic come from a combination of the Syriac word (Al) Zarnica and the Persian word Zarnikh, which became Arsenikon in Greek. This was Latinized into Arsenicum, which became arsenic in Old French which became the English word Arsenic.

Arsenic is named after the yellow colour of the ore it came from in Aramaic, (al) zarniqa, later Arsenikon in greek, which became Arsenic.
