SARD - translucent yellowish, light chestnut (or orange-brown) to reddish brown chalcedony, typically less intense and more brownish than carnelian. Some people, however, consider sard to be a synonym for carnelian, and in truth the boundary between carnelian and sard is arbitrary and differs with observers. Some sard on the market is dyed chalcedony and has been called sardium or sarium.
