Usually - but not always - electricity powers our lights and appliances.

Alternating Current.
heat, when burnt kinetic, when burnt can turn a turbine light, when burnt, lets off light
You can get mechanical energy through an electric motor, or thermal energy through a resistance heating element. You can also breakdown an electrolyte by passing a current through it, and you can produce microwave energy in a magnetron, or acoustic energy through loudspeakers.
Electric is usually the cheaper option. With gas appliances it all depends on what kind of gas it uses and what the price of that fuel is in your area. Also with electric appliances keep in mind there are electric fees that will be charged that are not the rate, sometimes a fuel charge is added.
It is geothermal energy, coal energy, and natural gas and oil energy.
Geothermal energy is thermal energy that is made and stored in the Earth. Thermal energy determines the temperature of things. Geothermal energy can be used for electricity.

thermal energy of course. :}
There are many appliances made these days that conserve energy. I would check out energystar.org for the latest information.
