Flint is often referred to as a "Chemical Sedimentary" rock.

Commonly formed when solid materials are dissolved by other means (water)

and then redeposited in layers. This explains to a degree why flint has such a fine

texture; it's comprised essentially of stuff that's small enough to be floating about in a glass of tap water.
