Glaciers gouge out valleys until they are 'U' shaped in cross section. They wear down mountains, carrying the debris (Mud and rocks) downhill. They leave mounds called 'moraines' where there is melting of the glacier's leading edge. The moraines may also act as a dam-wall trapping melt water as lakes.
