Is geology a real science?

It's not only real, it's very interesting to learn all about rocks, volcanoes, fossils, and all the other things that make up our planet. _______________ The word science comes from the Latin, and means knowledge, or in the verb form to know. Of course geology is a science. It is a large body of important information, and a great deal of that knowledge comes from brilliant theorizing and careful observation. Geologists can't do controlled experiments in the exacly the same way as other sciences, but each branch of 'science' has its unique focus, knowledge base and set of tools. Any study that demonstrably advances knowledge of the physical world is a science. There are some physicists that would argue that fields like biology/botany are not 'real' sciences or at best are 'soft' sciences, and I don't mean to belittle physicists as a whole. Sciences can be very different from one another and still be vitally important. If the only scientists who ever existed were the physicists, we wouldn't have much useful medicine, would we?

What are main concepts that make up the study of earth science?

There are a number of different subjects that make up the study of Earth Science. For example, a student might study geology, physics, climatology, and biology as part of an Earth Science program.

List down the different branches of science?

I don't recall ever seeing a schematic for science, but your suggestion is interesting. I'd divide natural science into the life sciences (biology) and material sciences (physics). Under physics I'd place cosmology, astronomy, geology, meteorology, and chemistry. Under biology I'd put botany, ecology, medicine, paleontology, etc. There is a lot of blurring and overlap, of course, such as in biochemistry, biomechanics, astrobiology, etc. Paleontology is about as much a science of rock, minerals, nuclear physics and geologic history as it is a science of biology.

Why is Economics under History instead of Science?

Economics is a social science. It could be organized under science, but we chose to group it with other social sciences instead of with physical sciences. Soon we may set up a Social Sciences or Humanities section.

What is the difference between hard science and soft science?

Hard science is difficult to solve and needs more time to dedicate to it to solve, in the other hand soft science is easier and needs less time to dedicate to it. Hard science uses mathematics to quantify the physical world, and to make predictions based on mathematics. Soft sciences rely almost exclusively on observations without much in the way of mathematics to back up their "facts."

What are the three divisons of science?

There are many methods of dividing up the Sciences - however the most common distinction is to seperate them into 3 branchs - Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

What is the use of mathematics in science?

In different sciences, there are lots of relationships between different quantities, described by equations. There are uses for the most basic math (e.g., multiplication) up to advanced topics (e.g., differential equations). Math is used more in certain sciences than in others - in the so-called "exact" sciences: you will find a lot of math in sciences such as physics, chemistry, astronomy, economics.Just open any science textbook, and see if you can spot equations that relate different quantities. In different sciences, there are lots of relationships between different quantities, described by equations.
