Basically anywhere away from the equator changes the ratio of day to night for each 24 hr period, and the Arctic and Antarctic circles at about 660 latitude are special cases. There, the sun does not set or rise for one or more days a year, the number of days at a time increasing as you get closer to the poles where the sun stays up for 6 months a year, and stays set for the other 6 months (approximately). Hence, the phrase "land of the midnight sun".
