Sulfur was known to ancients many centuries B.C.E. and they had different names for it. It's given name comes from the Latin. Antoine Lavoisier was the man who, in 1777, helped convince the scientific community that sulfur was not a compound as was thought, but was actually an element.

I believe that sulfur is found in the earth. I live in Florida and most everyone has city water, but if someone has a well, and the well driller digs too deep you can smell the sulfur in the water. Smells like rotten eggs. I also found sulfur pills in the health food store as a Homeopathic Remedy for various ailments. They are called Tissue Salts. There are all kinds of tissue salts for all kinds of ailments. Hope this helps answer your question. Britestar
