"Carbon and hydrogen are often included in the reactivity series even though they are non-metals. Carbon is included because this helps to explain what happens in the extraction of iron in a blast furnace. Hydrogen is included because any metal below it will not react with dilute acids."

Carbon is in the reactivity series as it helps to explain what happens in the extraction of iron ore, and hydrogen because any metal below it won't react with dilute metal. :-)

What metal oxides can be converted to the metal by carbon reduction but not by hydrogen reduction?

any metals below carbon in the reactivity series. :)

What is Hydrogen's reactivity?

we cant say the reactivity of H but reactivity of H can be ordered or compared with other elements. see the reactivity series

Where is carbon placed in the reactivity series and why?

Carbon comes below aluminum and above zinc in the reactivity series: Potassium Sodium Lithium Calcium Magnesium Aluminium CARBON Zinc Iron Tin Lead Copper Silver Gold Platinum

How did you work out the reactivity series of metals?

potassium sodium lithium calcium magnesium aluminium (carbon) zinc iron (hydrogen) copper silver gold

Why can't sodium be extracted by reduction with carbon?

Because it isn't below carbon in the reactivity series. Sodium is so high on the reactivity series that the only effective way of extracting it is by electrolysis.

What metals does hydrogen places between in the reactivity series?

Between Lead and Copper

Does copper react with dilute sulfuric acid?

No, as copper is below Hydrogen in the reactivity series

Why does Fe reacts with dil. H2SO4 to give hydrogen gas but copper does not?

Becayse Iron (Fe) is higher than hydrogen (H) in the chemical reactivity series so it displaces it forming hydrogen gas and Iron sulphate. But Copper (Cu) is lower than hydrogen in the chemical reactivity series so it cannot dispalce hydrogen thus not liberating hydrogen gas

How much reactivity does aluminum have?

Its reactivity depends upon the conditions , in acids and alkalies it is highly reactive with pure water and air it is unreactive, although in reactivity series it higher than hydrogen.

What metal is more reactive copper or aluminum?

Aluminium. This is because aluminum is "higher" than carbon in the reactivity series. You may wish to refer to the reactivity series if you need to compare the relative reactivities of other metals.

Which metal oxides will not react with carbon?

Metals which are above Carbon in the reactivity series, eg. Magnesium. These metals need to be extracted by electrolysis.

React with a metal to from hydrogen?

All those metals which are present below Hydrogen in the reactivity series like Ag , Cu , Au , Pt ,etc.
