Volcanic rocks are often more resistant to erosion than surrounding rock
Volcanic neck
Erosion has exposed many valuable minerals.
Sandstone, especially if it hasn't completely formed
Sedimentary rock that is exposed to heat and pressure will be changed to (metamophised) into metamorphic rock. This is often associated with volcanic activity. An example is limestone, when exposed to the pressure and heat can be changed to marble.
The Wasatch mountains, home to the Wasatch intrusive belt, contain eleven tertiary plutons. The plutons have been exposed as uplift and rotation have occurred over many years.
Volcanic neck
The remains of the mountains exposed are marine sedimentary rocks, oceanic basalt, even coal.
Rocks in higher elevation :)!

I guess it's getting hotter and then it gets so hot that it burns and then turns black 'caus of heat from the volcanic area.
Extrusive (volcanic) and exposed plutonic igneous rock.
The Navajo Nation is 27,000 square miles at between mainly 4500 and 8,000 feet in elevation. Some of the mountains are above 10,000 feet. 37% is classified as steppe, 55% is high desert and 8% cold high humid. The soils are thin and rainfall low. There is snow in the winter and it is hot in the lower areas in the summer. Much of the area is pinon pine/ juniper forest with grassland and sagebrush and rabbitbrush. The underlying rock is sandstones and silt-stones and it is often exposed in canyon walls and mesa sides. It is a beautiful place surrounded by the four sacred mountains.
