Carbon is a non-metal because:: -the isolated c4+ ion does not exist this can be explained as c4+ would have an estimated ionic radius of 15 pm. Such a tiny highly charged ion would be enormously polarizing and would form covalent bonds. -mostly it forms covalent bonds. -it does not have electron pool as do the metals have.
