I've been taking my son to his swimming lessons every day of this week and I've found that each time we come home, I am extra tired and sleepy. I have napped after every class because of the length of time we have spent at the swimming pool (usually 50 minutes swim lesson and about 45 minutes play). The smell of chlorine is definitely strong and no doubt getting to me. This can't be healthy.
Hydrogen and chlorine combine to form hydrogen chloride gas (HCl).
Chlorine like all gases , except the Noble Gases, is a polyatomic molecule. Two chlorine atoms make up a molecule of chlorine gas . It formula is 'Cl2'.
One phosphorus atom and five chlorine atoms make the compound phosphorus pentachloride, which has the chemical formula PCl5.
Chlorine itself does not make water blue. The blue color in water can result from other factors such as the presence of certain minerals or algae. Chlorine is often added to water as a disinfectant to kill harmful bacteria and ensure its safety for consumption.
Chlorine is a chemical element that is not made by humans but is found naturally in the Earth's crust and in seawater. However, most of the chlorine used in industry is produced from brine or by electrolysis of salt water.
