The Earth is a sphere. Consequently some of the Earth is more broadside on to the Sun than others. (the Equator). At the poles, the sun is barely glancing - never more than about 23 degrees above the Horizon.

And the spin axis of the Earth is tilted to the plane around which it orbits the Sun, so part of the year, the poles receive no Sun at all.

So the bits that get the most sun, and consistently day after day, get the warmest on average, and the bits of the Earth that often miss out on the Sun at all, get quite cold.

[And by the way, if we allow the Amazon rainforest to become clear-felled, it will revert to desert. For much of the rainfall there is aided by the presence of forest. Less forest = less rainfall!]

What factors determines different climatic zones on earth?

The main factors that determine different climatic zones on Earth are latitude, proximity to water bodies, elevation, and prevailing wind patterns. Climate zones are classified based on temperature and precipitation patterns, with factors such as these influencing the distribution of climate types across the globe.

Which of the following is used to divide the Earth into climate zones in the most widely used system of classifying climates?

The system used to divide the Earth into climate zones is the Koppen climate classification system. It considers factors such as temperature, precipitation, and vegetation to categorize climates into different zones.

What is the definition of zones of the earth?

Zones of the Earth refer to divisions of the Earth's surface based on certain characteristics such as climate, latitude, or vegetation. These zones, like the tropics or polar regions, help classify and understand different regions of the Earth based on specific criteria.

Earth has 3 main parts climate zones because of the difference in altitude what can happen?

The Earth has three main climate zones (polar, temperate, tropical) due to variations in temperature and sunlight distribution caused by the curvature of the Earth and its axial tilt. Altitude can affect climate by influencing temperature and precipitation patterns, with higher altitudes generally having cooler temperatures due to lower air pressure and moisture content. This leads to the formation of distinct climate zones at different altitudes, such as high-altitude mountains having cooler climates compared to low-lying areas.

How many different kinds of climate zones are shown on the map?

The map shows five different climate zones: tropical, dry, temperate, continental, and polar.
