When lightning strikes a power line. it may flash-over between different wire conductors on that power line. This along with the fact that it charges (or "inonizes") the air between those wires; which can cause a short circuit on the power line. Also a lightning strike can break off a large tree branch which can cause a short circuit on the power line.
Because a continuing short circuit can seriously damage the power line, protective circuit breakers or fuses interrupt power flow on the power line to limit damage. This is when your lights go out. If you were are fed by a circuit breaker that interrupted your power, it counts down for 15 seconds, and then restores power on the assumption that the short circuit no longer exists. If the short circuit still exists, the circuit breaker will interrupt power again.
So when your lights go out in a thunderstorm, count to 15. If your power comes back, count yourself lucky. You were served by circuit breaker and your power line only experienced a temporary short circuit.
If your power doesn't come back in 15 seconds, either you are served by a fuse or your power line is more seriously damaged - in both cases you will have to wait for a utility line crew to make repairs. Edited by PopPop.
It's safer to avoid elevators during an earthquake because they may malfunction or get stuck, trapping you inside. Additionally, if the power goes out during the earthquake, you could be left stranded in the elevator shaft. It is better to take the stairs if it is safe to do so during an earthquake.
You are usually drowsy during hot weather becasue of the climate. It makes you more relaxed and tired. A good time to take a nap. You can also get drowsy if you've been doing activities like sports or even a simple craft fair. Being in the heat can wear your body down. Don't ask me why, I'm not a scientist or doctor. That's all I know on drowsiness during hot weather. So go ahead, take my blessing, and go take a 15 hour nap! :0)
It gives you electricity and it costs a lot of money to build. But, it's really bad when it's not windy outside, so you only get a little electricity! Wind is renewable and is a great energy resource, on a windy day...

Severe weather, such as heavy rainfall or tropical storms, can lead to floods by saturating the ground, overflowing rivers or dams, or causing sudden flash floods. The excess water has nowhere to go and accumulates in low-lying areas, resulting in flooding. Rapid snowmelt and ice jams can also contribute to flooding during severe weather events.
The weather looks bad and.. I think I'll stay at home. Or... The weather look bad and... I don't care I'll still go out.

Your electricity may have gone out due to a power outage caused by factors such as severe weather, equipment failure, or maintenance work on the power grid.
They have several stops where they get out of the weather and get some sleep. They go to Rivendell once. They stay at Beorn's house. They stay in a cave but that turns out to be a bad idea because they get kidnapped by goblins.
Depends, if you don't mind facing largercrowds (anytime during the summer) and the possibility of bad weather (early hurricane season). Anytime is a good time, I like the spring it the fall personally, but I'm willing to risk the bad weather for the off season.
"Dear Lord, we ask for your protection and guidance during this stormy weather. Please calm the winds and bring peace to our surroundings. Help us to stay safe and secure in your loving embrace. Amen."
Summer and spring are the worst. Venice nearly triples its population during the summer. I recommend going in the fall or early spring. Its usually light jacket weather then.
The percentage of kids who do not go to school when the weather is bad depends on how many schools close and how many kids stay home from schools that remain open. It will vary in different areas and weather situations. In very bad weather, it could be 100% if all schools in an area have to close. In less severe weather when schools remain open, it could be as little as 1% or 2% for students whose parents do not send their children to school.
