Pollution of the environment is caused to a large extent by people. They generate much solid wastes which are not properly disposed of, and they burn fossil fuels to have electricity, to fuel their cars and to operate their factories.
Some environmental issues facing Paris include air pollution from traffic and industry, urban heat island effect due to lack of green spaces, and inadequate waste management leading to pollution of water bodies. Efforts are being made to address these issues through policies promoting sustainable transportation, creating more green spaces, and improving waste management systems.
Yes, the textile industry in India is known for its significant environmental impact, including pollution of water bodies, air pollution, and waste generation. The sector uses large quantities of water, chemicals, and energy, leading to environmental degradation and health concerns. Efforts are being made to promote sustainable practices and reduce the industry's ecological footprint.
Air pollution makes the rain more acid. The more acid the rain, the more easily the limestone dissolves. Major problem in e.g. Europe: many old buildings made out of limestone are starting to decay -> these buildings need to be restored if wanted to be preserved, which is quite expensive. Or, much better, deal with the problem at the source: significantly reduce are pollution.
Fossil fuels are made from the remains of ancient plants and animals that have been buried and transformed over millions of years. When burned for energy, fossil fuels release carbon dioxide and other pollutants into the atmosphere, contributing to air pollution, climate change, and other environmental issues.
Ozone depletion is more dangerous because it leads to a thinner ozone layer which increases the amount of harmful UV radiation reaching the Earth's surface, resulting in health problems such as skin cancer and cataracts. Pollution from fossil fuels contributes to global warming and air pollution, which can also have significant health and environmental impacts, but ozone depletion has more immediate and direct consequences.

Beijing faces severe air pollution primarily due to its high volume of industrial activity and dense population. The combustion of fossil fuels and emissions from vehicles contribute to smog and harmful particulate matter in the air, leading to health issues for residents. Additionally, rapid urbanization exacerbates the problem by increasing energy demands and waste production, further deteriorating air quality and overall environmental conditions. Efforts to combat pollution have been made, but challenges remain significant.

When the environment is contaminated with man-made waste, it is referred to as pollution. This can occur through various forms, including air, water, soil, and noise pollution, caused by industrial activities, improper waste disposal, and the release of harmful substances. Pollution negatively impacts ecosystems, human health, and overall environmental quality.

The answer is different if you "just want to know" or if you feel your personal environment is being impacted and it is causing a problem fro you. In the first case you will have to contact an Environmental Laboratory from the phone books environmental laboratory or environmental consultants pages who will analyze the water for whatever you want - for a price. Expect to pay a few dollars to several hundred dollars for every test you want done. More if you want the lab to take the sample properly and explain the results to you. If the contaminant is causing a problem the local government's environmental or health agency will likely teat the water. The results may or may not be made available to you.

Actually air pollution has been less of a problem than ever. The people who suffer worst from air pollution are people who burn biomass (wood, food waste, dung) inside without proper ventilation. In cities outdoor air pollution was a problem which was made worse by industrialization. In London smog was common and deadly smogs happened every decade or so. Air pollution in most US cities peaked in the 1950's and is far less of a problem than when the first Earth Day was held in 1971.
Degradation = decrease of quality. This can either happen naturally (e.g. erosion, landslides, forest fires, floods) or man-made (pollution). Pollution = the contamination of nature (air, soil, water) with harmful substances. Can occur naturally (volcanic eruptions) or man made (toxic gas release, industrial effluents) The difference of both is that degradation implies 'a decline of quality from its pure state' while pollution is 'the action that causes degradation'. Yes, pollution is one of the causes of degradation.
