Hydrogen may be promising by the fact that it only produces water vapor when consumed as fuel. It is also one of the most prevalent resources on our planet at the moment so their is no shortage of it for us to use. However there is only one problem with hydrogen though. With our current technology, it takes way more energy to make hydrogen then hydrogen will generate when used as fuel.

Liquid hydrogen contains a lot of energy in an extremely small space. A rocket needs to carry the weight of the fuel as well as the payload. As a result, the United States uses liquid Hydrogen for the first stage of its rockets.

Russia uses kerosene instead of liquid hydrogen because kerosene is a lot easier to handle and does not require expensive refrigeration equipment.

Because it is stable for an explosive element, can be pressurized into liquid form which can save valuable space, and is reactive enough to provide excellent thrust.

Because it has low activation energy so doesn't take a lot of heat energy to start a reaction. Also, it is a liquid so is easier to burn as it has low boiling points.

Why is a fuel cell useful in spacecraft?

because hydrogen is in the fuel cell. hydrogen is useful in many things including spacecrafts. please do not use this for anything important because I'm not sure but i been reading this page about hydrogen and it is true. I know for sure that hydrogen is used for rocket fuel because it is on the sheet. By Georgina thank you 4 going on wikianswers.com

They supply power to the spacecraft during missions.

How are manned spacecraft useful?

Manned spacecraft are very useful because it is easier to see and do things first hand than relying on only readouts from machines and senors.

What a fuel cell is why is it useful in spacecraft?

a fuel cell is a cell that produces electricity they are used to provied power and water for the spacecraft so the space craft could'nt really survive with out fuel cells

Is their anything of value on Jupiter?

Yes, certainly. Jupiter is covered with hydrogen gas, the simplest element in the universe. It will be incredibly useful as spacecraft fuel in the coming centuries. EVERY kind of matter is valuable. It's all in how you use it.

Why do modern spacecraft use helium instead of hydrogen?

Helium is much safer, so it is often used in balloons and blimps, not spacecraft.Hydrogen is still used as a fuel. Helium will not burn.
