Advertisers are aiming at the lowest common denominator. Intelligent people are rare and have long attention spans. Less-intelligent people are common and have shorter attention spans. Since there are more less-intelligent people, advertisers aim at this larger group. Advertising, therefore, has to be simplified, dumbed-down, to appeal to these less-intelligent people with their shorter attention spans. Reading is considered difficult by this demographic, so any text needs to be brief and easy to understand. Why give a detailed explanation when a sound-bite will do?
