Every oil well contains only so much oil, and when it is all pumped out, the well is finished. This is in contrast to something like agriculture. You can keep growing crops on the same plot of land, for an indefinite period. Oil wells run out.

Oil take thousands of years to form naturally and cannot be replaced as fast as it is being consumed. And you cant just take it out of the ground and put it back in.
