Magnesium hydroxide causes diarrhea. Together they does not affect the bowl movement. This fallows that if you have loose motion, you should take only aluminium hydroxide preparation, as an antacid. If you have constipation, you should take only magnesium hydroxide preparation as an antacid. I have trying to find one (or say two) such preparation.
