Lenticular clouds tend to form where the air swirls, notably over mountain peaks or near tall mountains. I live close to Table Mountain and there are always interesting clouds, but to get nice lenticular clouds the conditions have to be just right and I've seen them maybe four times in 8 years, so they're quite rare even in areas where they can form.

Keep looking up. Dramatic clouds make incredible landscape photos, they dictate the mood and atmosphere and as you get older, you look up less and less coz there's usually not much there. Just keep looking up and you'll see tons of stuff everyone else will miss.

Ever seen spiral clouds? Well neither have I, but I made them anyway, just coz clouds are fantastic. And not misty but in fact really, really wet, like rain. Sometimes they land here.

Lenticular clouds form in stable atmospheric conditions with strong winds flowing over obstacles like mountains. If the wind is not strong or the air is not stable enough for the clouds to maintain their shape, lenticular clouds may not appear. Other factors such as moisture levels and temperature inversions also play a role in the formation of lenticular clouds.
