Sodium has one valence electron, magnesium has two. If this valence electron is lost, then noble gas configuration is obtained. It is easy to lose one electron than two, so sodium is more reactive than magnesium

When sodium undergoes a reaction it loses one electron to form the Na+ ion. When magnesium reacts it forms the Mg2+ ion. It takes more energy to remove two electrons that it does to removed one.

Additionally, there is a greater positive charge on magnesium's nucleus than in sodium, and since the two elements have the same degree of electron shielding, there is a greater degree of attraction between the valence electrons and the nucleus.

because its in the group one of the Periodic Table, the more the left you the more the reactive

Because with increase in number of electrons the attraction of electrons towards nucleus increases hence the size of magnesium is less than that of sodium.

What element would be more reactive than magnesium?

Magnesium is more reactive than copper because if you study the periodic table, you will be able to find out that Magnesium is more reactive. Also, coins are made out of copper, they choose copper because it is cheap and extremely unreactive.Furthermore, I've done an experiment to find out that Magnesium is more reactive than Copper by putting both elements into Water/Acid.

Magnesium is one of the more reactive metals; it rarely exists in nature elementally.

Which is the most reactive iron zinc magnesium copper?

Sodium is by far the most reactive. It self ignites in air (it is stored in oil), reacts vigorously with water (releasing hydrogen) and reacts explosively in acids-even dilute. But the most reactive metal is Cesium and the most reactive non-metal is Flourine Cesium and H20 will explode...

Which metal is more reactive than magnesium?

All the alkali metals.

Is magnesium more reactant than sodium?

Not it's not. Sodium is an Alkaline Metal, and Magnesium is an Alkaline Earth Metal, therefore Sodium is more reactant than Magnesium. It is because Alkaline Metals are more reactant than Alkaline Earth Metals.

Why will magnesium metal react with copper sulfate solution while copper metal will not react with magnesium sulfate solution?

Magnesium is more reactive than copper in the reactivity series (reactive metal atoms displaces less reactive metal ions from its salts).therefore : Mg displaces CU from its salt forming MgSO4 (Magnesium Sulphate)
