Karl Marx wants the society to change by switching the capitalist economy with a communist economy. A economy where everything is publicly owned and people are paid according to their needs. With communism, Marx eliminated social classes and everyone was consider equal. However his philosophy did not work and it turned out to be a disaster.
Yes, Marx was a social thinker. He is known for his economic and political theories which predicted communism; however, those theories went beyond economics and politics, because he used them to theorize how certain societies developed into what they were and are. His theory that the mode of production (economic systems) created feudalism and capitalism and would eventually change society into socialism and then communism (social systems).
