A sales plan and a sales forecast are essentially the same, however the big difference is one is a set plan for the whole year. It is mostly used with larger corporations to single out units. A sales forecast is set at the store/branch level and is there to help with the changing situations (ie weather, natural disasters, and the such)

A plan is what you are going to do and a forecast is what you think is going to happen. There should be a link between the two, but you may not have the capacity to make all that you could sell.

Relating to a gain or loss in the value of a security that has been held over a specific length of time means short-term plan and relating to a liability for which a long period of time (usually one year) remains until payment of the face amount comes due means long term plan. This is the difference between short and long term plan.

Why should you have a business plan?

Having a strong business plan can be the difference between success and failure and with so many start up companies failing it would make sense to prepare a plan. A business plan should be a working document that changes as your company grows and as circumstances change. Having a plan is like having a road map, if you are not sure where you are going you can refer back to your plan and it will help you to keep moving forward with your business. Detailed financial plans can help you to avoid financial crisis, by planning ahead for time when you know the business may need extra cash you can take loans out when your business is in a good position instead of waiting for the crisis point and not being able to get financial assistance. You can benchmark your progress and see if you are getting the results you wanted to get in your plan. if you are not achieving the level of sales for instance then you can start to make changes in order to increase the sales and meet your targets. A business plan will keep you focused and driven and will help you to plan ahead in your business - this is why it can help you to achieve success.

What is the difference between forecast and prediction?

Difference between Budget and Forecast Once the financial objectives have been set, it is possible to prepare and agree a budget. A budget should relate the overall plan in figures. It is different from a forecast in the sense that the plan, and therefore the budget, sets minimum requirements, whereas a forecast is usually an expectation of what is likely to happen. Example: You might choose to budget for sales of £180,000 and use this figure in calculating your likely expenditure, profit and so on. Based on your market research, however, you predict sales of £200,000, and set a target of £220,000, in order to stretch your sales force. If all your costs are covered by the budgeted figure, then you will make a greater profit if you achieve the forecast and a still greater one if you achieve the target. (Whilst this is an important distinction, in practice for most businesses the forecast and budget will be the same.)

What is the difference between sales and marketing?

In my opinion, marketing is the art of expanding business, the art of spreading goods and services, following a strategy and action plan based on an advertising base. Sales is following the direct sales operation between customers (consumers) and the merchant (seller) in the magazine, bazzar, or in a mall. Depending on how your organization uses the words, there may be no difference or a big difference. Where there is a big difference, sales is often thought of as tactics while marketing is strategy.
