The EU has 3 alphabets - the Latin alphabet (i.e. English, French, German, etc.), the Cyrillic alphabet (Bulgarian and other languages which aren't yet part of the EU) and the Greek alphabet. Most EU countries have open borders between them meaning passports are never needed and border checks have been abandoned.
