How computers have both increased and decreased the demand of jobs?

Computers are great for many industries. Engineers, mechanics, 3D designers, technicians and statisticians/computer modellers such as meteorologists have benefited massively from the rise of computers. Computers can perform complex and delicate tasks extremely quickly and can do thousands of calculations in a matter of seconds. This is incredibly useful for creating complex or smooth-shaped products such as cars and toys. However, computers have also decreased the demand for jobs in many industries. Traditionally, cars were made by a team of skillful craftsmen but now cars can be produced much faster, cheaper and better by a machine. This means that the demand for skilled craftsmen has greatly dropped because they are not as efficient or as effective as a computer. Many people are scared that, as computers become more complex and more common in the workplace that they will replace humans. For example, in the textiles industry, people used to be sew cotton in the 19th Century but nowadays, machines create many types of fabrics all across the industrialised world. The demand for jobs is expected to be decreased for all manufacturing and also in the US and UK militaries as robots replace vulnerable humans. In conclusion, while computers present much greater capabilities of cheap mass-production and can undertake actions which humans are not capable of doing, they also decrease the demand of jobs for humans and threaten the livelihoods of many people.
