In 2009, in the United States, there are 43.6 million people, 14.3 percent of the total U.S. population, lived in poverty. This is the largest number of people in poverty in the 51 years for which the poverty estimates have been published.

the government spends about 300 to 400 billion dollars on the military each year.

they use it for supplies soldiers need to survive such as weapons, food, clothes ect.

imagine if the weapons turned to shelters, food was donated, and clothes for the needy were given each year.

This is soo true. Did you know over 450 billion dollars is spent on Christmas each year. Plus, it will only take 10 billion dollars to solve all the water problems in the whole world. With that money they woul make fresh water wells in all the places in need. Think of what could happen. Take a look at adventconspiracy.com it's were i got this info. or look at the video on the web site

The hole world, but there are different levels of poverty, like in Australia the people who live in poverty get payments from the government and gets a home and money.
As per the findings of the International Monetary Fund in 2009, the 5 most poverty stricken countries are (in increasing order of per person capita income) are Congo< Zimbabwe< Burundi< Liberia< Eritrea. As per the findings of the World Bank in 2008, the above mentioned order is slightly modified: Congo< Burundi< Liberia< Guinea-Bissau< Eritrea.

The simple answer is far, far too many. But it does engender the difficult question what are those of us who are not impoverished willing to do about it . I know how contentious this is: Stop making babies ! If poverty is to be reduced then so must overpopulation. There are too many people on this planet, assuming we do not want, accept, that many will be poor & undernourished. Oh, and I do not mean that the poor should stop making babies: We all must, all of us irrespective of colour, creed or nationality. And as I also previously said, I do know that what I am saying will not be accepted by everyone: And therein lies the problem.

A person on Yahoo answers says 60% of people suffer from poverty but I don't think that's quite right. Wikipedia says it's about half of the world that suffers from poverty.
