It depends on what quality of food you are getting. Organics have increased from the fear dealing with supply and demand. The cheapest foods are basically the same only increasing a few cents here and there from inflation.
If not getting organic the best bet is to look for sales or go to a place like Walmart and get their brand name goods off the shelf to save the most money. Aldi's is also know for their good prices.
I wouldn't worry so much about quality of food, after cooking it all safe. Just be sure to take a daily multi-vitamin, fish oil, and maybe a protein shake with multiple amino acids (like Optimum Nutrition's 100% whey) to keep the basics in line.
Too many people get obsessed over nutrition and it ends up taking over their lives. The best thing you can do for yourself is job 1-3 miles every day, period. My doctor even took me off all my 2 meds when I explained how I was taking those basic supplements and was jogging. He said most medications are just for people who refuse to do these basics and want an easy way out.
