Cents are not "white" unless they've been painted. If you have a coin that's silver in color, there are a few possibilities:

> It was plated for use in jewelry. That means it's damaged and is worth 1 cent only.

> It was dipped in acid to remove the outer copper plating. Again, a damaged coin.

> It was never plated to begin with, and the Mint struck the plain zinc blank. This case is a genuine error that could be worth as much as $100.

Unfortunately you'd need to have the coin closely inspected by someone who deals in error coins to tell the difference.
