Oligopoly
FedEx and UPS are two companies that ship products. Some people prefer FedEx over UPS and vice versa. On average FedEx is cheaper than UPS.
DHL faltered in the U.S. due to several factors, including intense competition from established players like FedEx and UPS, which had stronger brand recognition and a more extensive delivery network. Additionally, DHL struggled with operational inefficiencies and high costs associated with its express delivery services. The company's decision to exit the U.S. domestic market in 2008 was influenced by these challenges, as it could not achieve the necessary market share and profitability to sustain operations.
Yes, the package delivery industry can be considered an oligopoly, as it is dominated by a few major players, such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL, which control a significant share of the market. These companies have substantial resources and infrastructure, leading to high barriers to entry for potential competitors. Additionally, the competition among these firms often leads to price wars and service innovations, characteristic of an oligopolistic market structure. However, the rise of e-commerce has introduced some competition from smaller and regional carriers.

For the most part it seems that DHL is cheapest when it comes to ground shipping. The problem is that DHL companies are hard to find now because they are starting to lose customers. Therefore UPS is the next cheapest as far as ground shipping goes and it is much easier to find a UPS office. The running is between Fedex and DHL. DHL is a bit cheaper at this point but Fedex is more established and more trusted and their rates are just as competitive.
