If it's a large silver piece that says 1 oz silver on the back, it's worth the current value of 1 ounce of silver. Check the financial pages of a newspaper for current values; it'll be in the $15-18 range.
If it's a small golden-colored coin with Sacagawea and an eagle, it's made of manganese brass and is worth a dollar. (2003 dollars were supposed to have only been sold as collectors' items but a lot of them were spent anyway, which destroyed any extra value they may have had when in their original packaging.)
