The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (B&MGF) Global Health Initiative (GHI) has been a failure overall to date. Poor advice to someone without a clear understanding of how to effectively address global health issues has resulted of most of the money not helping anyone in the developing world. It has helped over paid individuals and corporations. Example would be the $86 million they contributed to polio eradication program. This programs bad leadership lacked any new ideas and was unwilling to accept others advise when the eradication efforts stalled several years ago. Rather than replace the leadership they continued to fund the status quo (along with many other donors) and now instead of less than a handful of countries reporting polio about 50 have. Polio will most likely be reintroduced to the U.S. by 2020 if dramatic changes aren't taken. While the GHI has had some success in expanding established programs such as the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative and others overall it has been a colossal waste of money. Compared to what the Carter Center has accomplished for global health with much less money but a better understanding of the issues the B&MGF GHI is a huge failure
